Hunua River Crossing

Students got their first taste of temperate evergreen forests in the Hunua Ranges. We investigated forest species that were entirely new to the students, we compared forest types and forest structure, and worked out ways of reading the landscape. In addition we spent some time on map reading, use of compasses and estimating measurements.  No hike in New Zealand is complete without several stream and river crossings.
